Sri Lankan Democratic Education Conference (SLDEC) is an annual international event aiming to make the Sri Lankan education system more effective. Participants from 53 countries joined this webinar with many discussions from educators and students. The "Changing Lives through Education" segment by CAL focusing on how it affects the lives of street children had an audience of over 5000 from around the world.
Key personnel from CAL participated in this event including Debbie Edirisinghe (Founder of CAL), Dilhani Fernando (Teacher at Kelaniya CAL Centre), Selvaraj Ramesh (Teacher at Kilinochchi CAL Centre) and Ruvini Senanayake (Teacher at Kandy CAL Centre). The event was moderated by Nuwan Dissanayaka (Founder of Sri Lankan Dreams Education Consultancy).
Our Founder, Debbie spoke of how and why CAL came into being, and about our firm belief that education transforms a child's life and their mentality. Dilhani shared her experiences on the importance of education for children caught up in a violent environment. Ramesh shared his story about how CAL used education as their main tool to bring healing to wounded hearts in Kilinochchi after the 30 year long civil war. Ruvini recounted her experience and how she in turn helps to change lives of children who have gone through similar experiences.
The CAL segment was very well received and was highly successful gathering the largest audience out of all the events. Our thanks to the CAL team who helped make it happen.
