Arabi* joined Child Action Lanka (CAL) at the age of 8 in 2012, with the inception of the Killinochchi centre. The year 2009 marked the end of the Civil War in Sri Lanka and by 2012 life for the communities in this area was returning to a sense of normality after enduring almost three decades of war. During this time, Arabi was looking for an opportunity in her education to help her pursue her dreams and ambitions of becoming a medical professional. Arabi and the many other children who attended the after-school classes held by our teachers and volunteers every week received the care and support they needed for a safe and happy childhood. Arabi successfully won the Outstanding Students Award scholarship offered by CAL to encourage students to pursue GCE ordinary levels, which she completed
with 9 A's. She also passed her GCE A/L examination in 2023 with flying colours obtaining 3 A's that qualified her to attend medical school, taking her one step closer to her dream.
