Reaching beyond CAL

Reaching out to assist families and children in need of support led our CAL teams to different areas in Sri Lanka to aid with various requirements.

• Heavy rains during the month of November resulted in 7 families in the Mahagastotte Upper Division losing their homes and having to take shelter in the hospital at the Estate Hospital building. CAL Nuwara Eliya staff provided them with blankets, warm clothing, and dry rations to tide them until the rains ceased and they could go back to their houses.

• In December, CAL Colombo centre together with Almayuda Foundation, supplied a pair of school shoes to 271 underprivileged children at St. Mary’s School Bambalapitiya. This is a part of the initiative carried out by the Almayuda Foundation which is the “Supply of School Requisites to Selected Marginalised School Children Programme”. In collaboration with CAL, a total of 2529 school children in 22 schools received supplies for the school year 2021 through this initiative.

• With donations provided by the Sri Lanka Foundation in the USA, we were able to distribute food packs to all districts in the north. Transporting 3000kg of food and dry rations, our staff travelled over night from Kandy, and in one day delivered 150 packs to some of the poorest families identified by the Divisional Secretariat.
